Two-component acrylic casting resin (water-based, liquid acrylic resin (component A) + mineral powder (component B)). Polymer plaster.
Acrylic One, A1 for short, is a two-component casting compound that is very easy to work with and hardens very quickly. The end product is opaque and unpigmented creamy white. A1 can be poured, sprayed (with an appropriate machine), applied with a spatula, brush or roller or laminated. The cast resin has good mechanical properties.
A1 can be used in many areas: e.g. for casting objects and sculptures, for building models and support moulds, e.g. for silicone casting moulds, in the field of stage design & architecture (interior and exterior), for laminating panels and other moulds, for coating and bonding polystyrene (EPS). Combination with PUR foam is not recommended.
A1 is non-toxic, solvent-free and therefore environmentally friendly. The material does not shrink during the curing process, the heat development is low (max. 40° C). Acrylic One is flame retardant, has high UV resistance and is protected against moisture after sealing. A1 is easy to pigment and the cured material can be painted or varnished. Once cured, it can also be easily machined (drilling, milling, sanding, polishing). Moulds made of A1 should only be sawn or drilled after about a week, because only then is the curing process (almost) complete. Although the material is already very hard after one day, it is still sensitive. If sawing or drilling is to be carried out at this stage, proceed very carefully.
Acrylic One can be adjusted exactly to the desired appearance by adding a wide variety of fillers or materials such as pigments (for water-soluble substances), sand, stone or metal powder, e.g. marble, terrazzo, concrete or ceramic. By adding sand and quartz, for example, a granite look can be created, and by adding metal powder, that of the original, much more expensive and complex metal castings. The material can be reinforced or laminated with triaxial fibres (glass fibre), and lightweight fillers offer additional application possibilities. Additives allow flexible adaptation of processing time and consistency to individual work requirements. A maximum of the same weight proportions as the powder can be added.
APPLICATION:
A1 must be carefully weighed and mixed for optimum processing:
To prepare the standard casting compound, weigh 2 parts powder and 1 part acrylic resin. First pour the liquid resin into the mixing container. It is best to stir with a stainless steel stirrer, e.g. on a drill, then add the appropriate amount of powder. Continue stirring until a uniform, lump-free consistency is achieved. Then continue stirring for approx. 30 seconds. Then process the mixture immediately.
To achieve optimum mixing results, we recommend using an A1 high shear mixing blade, a stirring rod for a drill or cordless screwdriver, which ensures that as few air bubbles as possible get into the mixture during mixing. To obtain a lump-free mixture, we recommend sieving the powder before mixing if necessary.
The standard processing time for the acrylic resin compound is approx. 20 minutes. Additives can be added to achieve a different viscosity or a longer or shorter curing time.
The exact curing time depends on various factors such as the size of the object to be moulded, the thickness of the laminate to be produced, the room temperature or the humidity. Acrylic One is a water-based compound, i.e. the residual moisture must escape completely in order to achieve the final result.
When using casting moulds, please check in advance whether the mould is made of a self-releasing material. If this is not the case, use a release agent.
