Nerofor black stain for colouring copper, brass and bronze. Patination, antique colouring of non-ferrous metals. PTFE- and silicone-free.
The BALLISTOL non-ferrous metal colourant can be used to create an interesting antique colouring of metal surfaces such as bronze, copper and brass. The intensity of the colouring varies from brown to dark brown to black, depending on how long the Nerofor blacking is left to take effect. Light yellow brass or copper surfaces are coloured to a dark brown. The result is a stain-free and abrasion-resistant antique look that looks like a patina. Nickel silver can also be blackened if the application time is extended.
The non-ferrous metal colourant can thus replace the very unpleasant smelling liver of sulphur or other special acids for patination, for example.
If the metal is further treated with BALLISTOL Universal Oil after burnishing/patination, a matt-glossy surface is created. Burnishing also protects the metal surface from further oxidisation. Not suitable for burnishing iron and steel.
APPLICATION:
The parts to be coloured must be well degreased and free of any oxidation. Therefore, first pre-treat the metal surface with fine steel wool or sandpaper (maximum 380 grit), then degrease the workpiece, e.g. with BALLISTOL Cold Degreaser, or treat with 30 per cent hydrochloric acid. Finally, rinse thoroughly with warm water.
After pre-treatment, BALLISTOL Buntmetall-Färber can be applied with a brush, by spraying or with the aid of an immersion bath, depending on the size of the surface or object to be treated. The ideal temperature for an immersion bath is 30 - 35° C. A lower temperature slows down the process and the reaction time increases accordingly. Temperatures above 40° C prevent a positive result. Allow BALLISTOL Buntmetall-Färber to react for approx. 1 to 3 minutes, depending on the desired degree of colouring.
At the end of the exposure time, rinse the workpiece with fresh water and wipe off the remaining water with a dry cloth or towel. Apply oil, wax or clear varnish for a final finish.
