Bildhau in Umbria

For more than 20 years, sculptor Wolfgang Sandt has been offering stone sculpting courses at Villa La Rogaia in Umbria, Italy. Villa La Rogaia is a family-run agriturismo surrounded by greenery in the hills above Lake Trasimeno in Umbria. The course participants stay in small flats that have been furnished with great attention to detail and with sculptures and paintings by the artist Wolfgang Sandt. The house is surrounded by a spacious garden with a pool. There are dreamy corners with sculptures and cosy little seating areas everywhere, from which the view sweeps over olive groves, vineyards, lavender fields and meadows.

The course is suitable for participants of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Wolfgang Sandt will cater to the individual needs of each participant. The sculpting course does not require any previous knowledge, massive muscle mass or superhuman strength. What you do need is the will to "keep at it" and a little patience. Participants will learn how to work with traditional sculpting tools by hand. For advanced sculptors, the use of machine tools is also possible by arrangement.

If desired, ideas for the creation of your own sculpture can be discussed with Wolfgang Sandt before the course. In the Sculpting and Dolce Vita course, this brainstorming is an integral part of the course, along with preparation of your own workpiece (so that participants can get started right from the first day), full board, massage and excursions to ancient sights.

Villa La Rogaia is located in the heartland of Etruscan culture. Nearby there are Etruscan tombs and museums with Roman and Etruscan artefacts to visit. The millennia-old culture of Umbria can serve as a stimulus during the course in La Rogaia, as can visiting works of sculpture from antiquity to the Renaissance, in museums and at archaeological sites.
