BILDHAU WORKSHOPS IN THE BLACK FOREST

Under this motto, sculptor Martin Wiese organises three- to four-day courses for beginners and advanced sculptors from April to October. One part of the workshops begins with an excursion and the selection of the stones to be carved in a quarry in neighbouring France.

In an otherwise 16- or 22-hour course of work in small groups of up to ten or twelve participants, unique pieces are later created in the studio at Maierhof in St. Wilhelm (20 km from Freiburg i. Br.), as diverse and expressive as the course participants who create them. In an intensive working atmosphere, different people come together here who have one thing in common: The desire to give a stone a favoured form and personal expression.

The Maierhof, built on the foundations of the old Wilhelmite monastery, stands on a small hill on the edge of an ice-age terminal moraine. The neighbouring farm building now serves as a sculptor's studio. The workshop and canopies outside offer several workplaces with a unique view of the Schauinsland, Freiburg's local mountain. The same view can also be enjoyed in the evening as the day draws to a close at the in-house fireplace.
