10 - 15 August 2026
with Dana van Rijssen.

A bozzetto is a sketchy model that can also stand alone as a small sculpture. This week you will learn how to carve one or more wooden figures.

A bozzetto is a sketchy model, a design that is not perfectly worked out. This small sculpture can also stand completely on its own, expressing the spontaneous, the processual.

In this week you will learn to carve one or more wooden figures. We will immerse ourselves in a little tool knowledge, the correct clamping of the workpiece and the realisation in lime wood. You will learn how versatile a single carving iron can be used, which details visually refine small carvings and how to realise them.

You are welcome to bring your own ideas and designs, which Dana van Rijssen will expertly guide you through.

In a wonderful community of like-minded people, we will dedicate ourselves to the artistic process and also exchange and connect over meals together.

Sculptor. Trained at the sculpture school in Munich. Lives and works in Marienheide. Conducts seminars and art projects with children, young people and adults in her own workshop and externally at educational institutions. Her favourite material is wood in all sizes.

The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to try something new and discover themselves, as well as experienced sculptors who are looking for an inspiring setting and want to deepen their skills and knowledge.

We start daily at 9.30 am. Coffee is available from 9am for a relaxed arrival. At 1 pm we have lunch together. The lunch break until 3 pm can be used for independent work or other activities. The daily workshop time ends at 5.30 pm.

On the last day, we conclude the week with a small exhibition of our sculptures. At 12:30 pm we start the tour with a small lunch buffet, during which we look at and discuss the works together. Friends and family members are welcome to view the works and celebrate the end of the week with us. The workshop ends around 2 pm.

The participation fee includes lunch and drinks. We calculate with 10 Euro per person and day, i.e. for a 6-day workshop it is 60 Euro.

The vegetarian lunch together contributes to the rich and inspiring atmosphere of our workshops. You can let us know in advance if you have any food intolerances. We will endeavour to take these into account.

The price includes the use of all tools provided. Material costs are charged according to consumption and are around €15. You are welcome to bring your own materials and tools. Woodworking tools require a high degree of sharpness, so having your own tools is a great advantage when working with wood.

Students, pupils and trainees receive a 30% discount on the course fee (limited number of places, please specify in the message field when booking).

The spacious studio is located in a light-flooded timber-framed building. The large windows face the garden, where you can work under awnings if you wish. The studio is located directly next to the new shop. You can browse there at your leisure and shopping is possible on weekends.

The building was erected in 1973 and has been honoured with architectural awards. It was declared a listed building in 1994. Just a few minutes away you will find the Max Ernst Museum and Falkenlust Palace, one of Brühl's UNESCO World Heritage castles. In the summer months, the Berggeistweiher pond in the Kottenforst forest invites you to take a refreshing break.

The address is: bildhau KG, Am Rankewerk 2, 50321 Brühl
There are plenty of parking spaces in front of the building. The location is barrier-free.

A list of accommodation for your stay follows.
