Care of rasps and files:
We recommend a file brush for cleaning rasps and files.
Rasps and files cannot be resharpened. In order to maintain the sharpness of your rasps and files for as long as possible, we recommend that you do not use rasps and files for working on quartz-containing stones, such as sandstone. Some serpentine and soapstones may also contain quartz. As quartz is harder than steel, the rasp and file surfaces are abraded and become blunt very quickly. Hard metal or diamond rasps and files are therefore much more suitable for quartz-containing stones.
If you use rasps or files in wood sculpting, they usually remain sharp for much longer than when used in stone sculpting. As optimally sharp tools are essential for wood sculpting, we recommend that you no longer use rasps and files that have already been used on stone for wood sculpting. It is highly unlikely that you will achieve satisfactory results there. Conversely, their use is generally less problematic.
