MORE INFO
The KAPRA chisels made from forged steel are individually forged by hand in the small traditional forge EID in Metten, Bavaria. They are ideal for working medium-hard stone up to the hardness of limestone and marble. The special quality of the chisels lies in the optimum hardness of the tip and cutting edge - for a long service life of the sculpting tools and great stability at the same time. In an interview with bildhau, the owner of the forge Reiner Eid explains what is special about his tools and how they are made.
KAPRA chisels with a mallet head are produced for working with an iron or steel fist, historically also known as a mallet. The mallet delivers a very direct blow. The energy of the blow is powerfully transferred to the stone via the chisel. KAPRA chisels with a mallet head therefore have a tapered head that is driven wider over time by the impact of the hammer. To protect the hand and ensure optimum force transmission, the mallet head must be chamfered again from time to time.
