Steel tools wear out quickly, especially when working in sandstone. This is why claw-insert holders with interchangeable inserts are preferred.

Claw-inserts and mallet inserts can be easily exchanged with the claw-insert holder: The inserts can be used on both sides. The inserts are simply inserted into the claw-insert holder and are fixed in place automatically when the stone is struck. If you want to turn the claw chisel or striking or pickling iron insert over, simply tap the side of the insert until it comes loose.
The claw-insert holder is particularly practical for sandstone: as sandstone is abrasive, sculpting tools can wear out more quickly. With the claw-insert holder, you don't have to replace the entire tool, just turn over or change the insert.
