Gouges are versatile carving tools: when carving wood, they are used for everything from removing a lot of material for the initial rough shape to the fine finishing of details. You can use gouges to shape wood freely, carve out convexes and concaves and shape surfaces.

KIRSCHEN gouges are available with different stitches and in many different blade widths. The depth of the curvature of the carving iron is indicated by a number - from 2, very flat irons, to 11, strongly curved irons. At KIRSCHEN, a carving iron with an engraving 1 is called a flat iron or ball iron. Carving irons with a gouge edge 2 1/2 to gouge edge 4 are called flat irons and carving irons with a gouge edge 5 to gouge edge 11. Flat and gouges are available in straight, curved, offset and inverted offset shapes.
