Curved gouge. Bevelling angle 20°. Sculptor's chisel with hornbeam handle, octagonal shape. Total length 280 mm.

Gouges are versatile carving tools: When carving wood, they are used for everything from removing a lot of material for the first rough shape to the fine finishing of details. You can use gouges to shape wood freely, carve out convexes and concaves and shape surfaces.

KIRSCHEN gouges are available with different stitches and in many different blade widths. The depth of the curvature of the carving iron is indicated by a number - from 2, very flat irons, to 11, strongly curved irons. At KIRSCHEN, a carving iron with an engraving 1 is called a flat iron or ball iron. Carving irons with a gouge edge 2 1/2 to gouge edge 4 are called flat irons and carving irons with a gouge edge 5 to gouge edge 11. Flat and gouges are available in straight, curved, offset and inverted offset shapes.

KIRSCHEN carving chisels are supplied sharpened and ready for use. KIRSCHEN carving chisels are made from a high-carbon tool steel with a hardness of 61 HRc and hardened in a salt bath over the entire useful length (2/3 of the blade). The steel is subject to natural corrosion. To prevent corrosion, the chisels should be cleaned with a lightly oiled cloth (e.g. with BALLISTOL universal oil) after use or if they are stored for a longer period of time, so that a light, protective oil film forms.
