Latex: Moulding with natural rubber
Latex consists of a natural material, namely the milky sap of rubber trees. At bildhau, latex is available as white milk that has been pre-vulcanised and preserved with ammonia.
The latex milk dries in the air to form a very elastic, flexible skin. This is why latex is particularly suitable for the production of one-piece and therefore seamless moulds. However, you can also use latex to make objects and masks or coat fabrics to make them water-repellent or non-slip.
Latex moulds are particularly suitable for casting plaster - or wax objects. Casting resins , on the other hand, can attack the natural material, the mould quickly becomes brittle and is no longer usable. Latex moulds generally have a limited service life.
