Here you will find interesting information on calculating the weight of a sculptor's stone.
Bardiglio is a marble with a fine structure, great homogeneity and high polishability, which is why it is particularly suitable for sculpting. Due to its very fine crystalline structure, Bardiglio can also be used to create very detailed or small-scale works. Bardiglio is available in many different shades of grey, the bildhau Bardiglio is grey with darker veins or grey with lighter veins, depending on the delivery.

PROCESSING
Bardiglio can be worked very well by hand using forged steel chisels (point chisels, claw chisels, flat chisels, etc.) with an impact head in combination with an iron mitten. Softer marble can also be worked with forged steel rasps, harder marble with carbide rasps and diamond files. Marble can also be polished by hand to a high lustre. In Italian sculpture workshops, marble is mainly worked with pneumatic tools, which can be used to shape it very precisely. Polishing can also be done mechanically.
Like some limestone, Bardiglio contains sulphur, which is why a slight smell of sulphur can be detected during processing. The sulphur is due to organic residues from shells and small animals, although these are not visible.
Unlike other types of marble, Bardiglio can have a stronger bearing direction, but this is not always the case. This cannot usually be recognised directly from the outside.
Sculptures made of Bardiglio are particularly suitable for indoor use, although some Bardiglio varieties are also suitable for outdoor use. If necessary, the stone can be treated with an appropriate impregnation.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Bardiglio is a name for grey marble from the Carrara region in Italy. The very fine-grained carbonate stone has a uniform average grain size of around 0.5 mm. The grey colour, which varies greatly in intensity depending on where it is quarried, is caused by the accumulation of graphite, which in turn is formed from organic carbon. The veining in the light grey to dark grey areas can be both graphite-free white and dark to black-grey. Bardiglio is around 150 million years old.
Stone is a natural product. We endeavour to reproduce the appearance of our sculptured stones as accurately as possible in the illustrations so that the character of the stone can be recognised. Ultimately, each stone is unique and the appearance may differ from the illustration.
