MORE INFO
Due to its very fine-grained and uniform structure, which resembles that of marble Statuario Venato, Paonazzo is an excellent sculptor's marble. With its white-yellowish base colour and black veins, Paonazzo is a rarer and more valuable marble.

PROCESSING
Paonazzo can be worked very well by hand with forged steel chisels (point chisels, claw chisels, flat chisels, etc.) with a mallet head in combination with an iron hammer. Softer marble can also be worked with forged steel rasps, harder marble with carbide rasps and diamond files. Marble can also be polished by hand to a high gloss finish. In the Italian sculpture workshops, marble is mainly worked with compressed air tools, which can be used to shape it very precisely. Polishing can also be done by machine.
Sculptures made of Paonazzo are particularly suitable for indoor installation. For outdoor installation, the stone may need to be treated with an impregnation. Polishing with oxalic acid also makes the Paonazzo more resistant to environmental influences.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Paonazzo is a marble with a white-yellowish base colour with dark to black, sometimes bold veining. It has a uniform, fine crystalline structure with an average grain size of the individual calcite minerals of a constant approx. 0.5 mm. Marble is a metamorphic rock that is around 140 million years old.
Stone is a natural product. We endeavour to reproduce the appearance of our sculptured stones as accurately as possible in the illustrations so that the character of the stone can be recognised. Ultimately, each stone is a unique piece and the appearance may differ accordingly from the illustration.
