Very versatile, ready-to-use, highly pigmented liquid glaze for painting and flat glazing. Firing range 999°C (Cone 06) - 1305°C (Cone 10).

Stroke & Coat® glazes are particularly versatile, highly pigmented, viscous glazes, non-toxic and food-safe, ideal for potters and visual artists, studios and classrooms. The glazes can be used for eating and drinking utensils.

Stroke & Coat® glazes can be used on biscuit earthenware and stoneware as well as on raw, moist or leather-hard clay. The glazes can be applied with a brush, sponge or paint bottle and can be used for a variety of techniques, such as wash or watercolour style, majolica, sgraffito, screen printing, etc. The liquid colour matches the fired colour, so that the final result can be easily imagined even before firing.

The glazes have been formulated to mature at Cone 06 (999°C)/Cone 05 (1046°C). Most Stroke & Coat® glazes retain their colour at higher temperatures, especially reds, oranges, yellows, greens and blues. Their performance at Cone 6 (1222°C) is noted on each individual product label with any changes.

Firing temperature 1000°C (Cone 06): Translucent when applying one coat of Stroke & Coat Crackerjack Brown, further coats increase the opacity. Two to three coats are recommended for full opacity and a full-surface glaze. Creates a glossy finish when applied over the entire surface, even without additional clear glaze.

Firing temperature 1220°C (Cone 6): Semi-transparent. Uneven. The colour lightens to a slightly darker SC-005 Tiger Tail.

Shake glaze well before applying. When applied once, the glaze remains translucent. To make the glaze opaque, apply Stroke & Coat® two to three times. Allow layers of colour to dry until they are no longer shiny before applying the next coat. For a wash or watercolour effect, the glaze can be diluted with water or media. If the ceramic surface is fully glazed, no additional clear glaze is required for a glossy finish.

All Stroke & Coat® glazes can be mixed together to create individual colour shades. In the low firing range, the colours can clash without running, light colours can be used over dark colours, remaining bright and opaque and not mixing with the underlying colours. When used in designs in the medium or high temperature range, the glazes can become blurred. We generally recommend testing the glazes on your own clay and in your own kiln before use.

When using on wet or leather-hard clay, make sure that the glaze is fluid enough for application, i.e. that it can be applied easily without forming bubbles - dilute with water if necessary. It may be necessary to apply additional layers of glaze so that the thinned glaze fires opaquely. It is recommended to leave an area of the clay object unglazed, e.g. the back or underside of the unfired piece, so that the clay can outgas during firing. In this way, glaze defects can be reduced or avoided. The undiluted glaze application should also be limited to two layers, including the decorations. A test firing is also always recommended here.

H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. P273 Avoid release to the environment. P501 Dispose of contents / container in accordance with legal requirements.

EUH208: Contains 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (CAS No. 2634-33-5). May produce an allergic reaction.

The colour samples shown were fired flat on a white clay body. The choice of clay body, the thickness of the glaze application, the firing process and the temperature all influence the firing result. We generally recommend testing the glazes on your own clay and in your own kiln before use.

Please note that the manufacturer's information on the food suitability of the glazes does not replace any necessary certification of the finished ceramic products for tradespeople.
