MORE INFO
Oil-bonded OBB fine moulding sand type E for bronze casting, metal casting. Ready to use.
The oily sand can be firmly compacted and retains its mould. Simple moulds can be cast using a support mould, e.g. made of wood. To cast a relief, a one-piece mould, e.g. a box, is required, for sculptures at least a two-piece mould. A different casting method, such as the lost wax process, is recommended for moulds with very large undercuts.
OBB sands are ready-to-use fine moulding sands that have been specially developed for use in foundries and meet the highest standards. They are very easy to process and are characterised by particularly good surfaces of the objects cast in them. Contour-accurate and dimensionally accurate castings are possible thanks to the high stability of the OBB sand.
OBB sand type E is an oil-bonded fine moulding sand that cannot dry out due to its special bond. Depending on use, it can be reused or regenerated after repeated use by adding OBB oil and OBB paste.
In addition to the standard quality OBB-Sand E, the sand is also produced with higher (type EM) or lower (type E-fett) flowability. OBB sand can be used as landing sand or circulating sand.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Compressive strength: 1,300 g/cm²
Shear strength: 400 g/cm²
Gas permeability: 18
Flowability: 35 %
Grain size: 140 AFS
Average grain size: 0.09 mm
PROCESSING RECOMMENDATION:
When applying the sand, the first layer should always be sieved onto the model and lightly pressed down. The moulding box can then be filled with circulating sand without sieving and compacted thoroughly. Do not add water, do not use coatings.
When working with two moulding boxes , separate the sand layers, e.g. with talcum powder. First embed the original model in sand in the first moulding box up to about halfway. Then place the second moulding box. Create the sprue. To remove the original model, unfold the moulding boxes again. For smaller moulds, venting channels can be created using a thin wooden skewer, for example.
REGENERATION:
The prerequisite for successful regeneration is that the respective OBB sand is not mixed with any other type of sand.
In addition, the regeneration of oil-bonded sands depends on how much the sand has burnt out. After pouring, it is first necessary to simply loosen and homogenise the sand. This is best done with a sand slinger. Depending on the size and wall thickness of the casting, the sand loses plasticity and/or compressive strength after repeated use. Regeneration in the pan mill or intensive mixer is then necessary:
Regeneration of plasticity: Addition of approx. 0.1% OBB-Ã-l
Regeneration of compressive strength Addition of approx. 0.1% OBB paste
Mix briefly - approx. 2 minutes - in a pan grinder or intensive mixer. Optimum loosening is achieved by subsequent use of a sand centrifuge.
