Between Goslar and Salzgitter.
In the atelier zum stein, in the idyllic atmosphere of the thousand-year-old Wallmoden estate, you will find the opportunity to leave everyday life and routine behind, to immerse yourself in the world of creativity and to entrust yourself to the slow, meditative process of sculpting. Under the guidance of Marianna Zumstein, qualified art therapist and freelance sculptor, you will experience how inner images take shape through your hands and perhaps even surprise you with an answer. I will be happy to assist you with my experience and advise you on creative and technical questions. You can start work with a specific idea or without a plan. If you want to realise an idea, it makes sense to bring a model, pictures or drawings with you. However, you can also decide to go freestyle and be guided by the shape and texture of the blank.
The preferred material for the weekend courses is Thüster limestone. This light-coloured limestone is relatively soft and can be easily beaten, rasped, sanded and polished. The particularly soft soapstone is also very suitable for beginners and is available in various sizes and colours. Slightly more demanding stones are alabaster, serpentine, travertine and marble, of which a small selection is also available. The work is done exclusively by hand. Tools, safety goggles and gloves are provided. In the event of rain, work can be carried out in the hall or under the archway. On the first evening and during lunch breaks, a simple meal from Marianna's kitchen is provided for everyone.
Well-seasoned, local wood in various sizes is available for the wood sculpting courses. You are also welcome to bring your own wood. Well-sharpened chisels and gouges are available. Sharpening itself can be learnt during the course if you are interested. Flex and chainsaw can be used if required.
