AX-40 Device for hatchets

Device for sharpening all types of hatchets and axes with convex, flat or concave bevels. Successor model to TORMEK SVA-170, suitable for TORMEK T-8, T-4 and older models.

The AX-40 sharpening device is suitable for simple and precise sharpening of all types of hatchets and axes with a head length of 110 - 220 mm and a thickness of 10 - 40 mm (at the thickest point), for carving hatchets, carpenter's hatchets and broad axes, outdoor hatchets and cleavers, universal and splitting hatchets with straight and curved cutting edges, different cutting edge angles and symmetrical or asymmetrical sharpening.

Each jaw of the device has two stops, the cutting edge can be moved in a controlled manner between the stops over the grinding wheel to sharpen a convex bevel. A slightly hollow grind can also be realised with the stops. As the stops of the hatchet device are rounded, it is easy to follow the shape of the hatchet, regardless of whether it is straight or rounded. This makes it possible to achieve an even bevel on all hatchets. Carving axes can also be sharpened asymmetrically, e.g. with a larger bevel on the left-hand side for right-handers. As the cutting force is closer to the cutting direction, it is easier to cut and carve. For a completely flat bevel, the side of a diamond grinding disc with the MB-102 multi-holder is best suited.

The WM-200 anglemaster can be used to select the optimum sharpening angle on the AX-40 device for hatchets. The cutting edge angle for an all-round hatchet for outdoor use, for example, is larger than the cutting edge angle for a carving axe, so that more force can be applied. A splitting axe requires an even larger cutting edge angle.

The AX-40 sharpening device is extremely versatile, both in terms of the different axes it can sharpen and the many positioning options for sharpening.
