MORE INFO
The material structure of the TORMEK Japanese Waterstone corresponds to a grain size of 4000 and creates a mirror-like surface with barely visible sanding grooves. This makes the grinding wheel suitable for anyone who wants to achieve a perfect grinding pattern for really clean cuts on their tools. Almost no material is removed when grinding with the water stone, meaning that the SJ-250 cannot be used for shaping a tool. To grind and shape a new cutting edge, a different grinding wheel should be used first.
The Japanese water stone ensures a high-gloss finish and razor-sharp results when sharpening and polishing the bevels of hand tools in particular, e.g. carving tools such as chip carving knives, gouges, chisels, plane irons, but also all other hand tools such as knives and scissors. The prerequisite is that the tools already have the correct shape and angle.
The special composition of the water stone makes it low-maintenance and very durable. It also grinds so finely that it is no longer necessary to finish the ground tool with a leather honing wheel.
As the surface of the TORMEK Japanese Waterstone is extremely fine, it should be cleaned at regular intervals of up to once a minute during grinding in order to remove even the smallest steel particles that could leave grinding marks on the tool. The fine side (!) of the SP-650 stone burnisher can be used for cleaning or alternatively the coarse side of a sponge. The coarse side of the SP-650 is not suitable for cleaning the water stone under any circumstances, as it would damage the fine grindstone. The grain of the Japanese waterstone cannot be altered with the SP-650 fine sharpener.
