The SVD-186 gouge jig for tubes is a favourite among woodturners: It ensures exact repeatability of the shape as well as the cutting angle of gouges and profile chisels. This ensures that the tools always behave in the same way when turning, even after sharpening. The shape and exact cutting edge angle can be set with the TTS-100 setting gauge for turning tools.

With the SVD-186 gouge jig for tubes, tools can be sharpened with the cutting edge in the direction of rotation of the grinding wheel, with the universal support aligned horizontally. Older TORMEK sanding machines (built in 2001 or earlier) require the XB-100 horizontal base to be able to retract the cutting edges.

The SVD-186 gouge jig for tubes is also suitable forsharpening carbide turning tools. In order to sharpen them in a controlled manner, the cutting tools are mounted on the special shaft that is included with the fixture. The fixture can be adapted precisely to the shape of the tool, making it easy to produce an even bevel on a rounded cutting edge.

To maintain full control when sharpening carving tools such as v-parting jigs, the SVD-186 gouge jig has a locking knob that locks the rotation of the jig. The locking knob can also be used to sharpen violin-maker's knives with a completely flat grinding bevel when using the MB-102 multi-holder and TORMEK diamond grinding wheels.

In combination with the BGM-100 bench grinder mounting set for double grinding and polishing machines , the SVD-186 gouge mounting set can also be used on a double grinding machine - if, for example, tools need to be reshaped and a lot of material needs to be removed (be careful not to overheat the cutting edge!). Once the rough shape has been produced on the grinding and polishing machine, the cutting edge is brought to its final sharpness with a TORMEK. The TORMEK TTS-100 setting gauge for turning tools keeps the shape and cutting edge angle constant.
