Verde Guatemala is a harder soft stone and is now mined in Rajastan in India, as Verde Guatemala is no longer available from Guatemala. Like marble, it is a metamorphic rock. Almost half of Verde Guatemala consists of the mineral serpentinite, which also gives it its beautiful strong green colour, and a high percentage of calcite, which has a crystalline structure. Verde Guatemala is particularly suitable for indoor sculptures. In outdoor areas, the polish loses its lustre and individual components are not permanently acid-resistant.
Other names for Verde Guatemala are Rajastan Verde, Indian Green or Verde Imperiale.

PROCESSING
Softer serpentine can be worked very well with forged steel chisels such as point chisels, claw chisels, flat chisels and lettering chisels. Rasps and files can also be used. As Verde Guatemala is a harder serpentine, we recommend working the stone mechanically, by hand with carbide chisels and diamond rasps.
Sculptures made of serpentine are particularly suitable for indoor installation.
