30 - 31 May 2026
with Dana van Rijssen.

A course for anyone interested in sculptural design with unusually ordinary means: We work with cardboard, wrapping and tissue paper, flour and water.

In these times of online shopping, everyone probably has the materials used here at home: wrapping and tissue paper, cardboard, as well as flour and water.

We design and build figurative or abstract, organic shapes in sizes up to 50 cm. Individually orientated to the idea, we produce an inner base, a skeleton, which is laminated with paper. The shape can be changed at will right up to the end by applying moulded paper.

We make the binding agent for this ourselves. We make a glue from flour and water, the viscosity of which can be adjusted. In combination with the paper, this results in incredible stability and extremely low weight. Due to the lightness, there are many possibilities for presentation. The presence of the works is incredibly beautiful. We draw from the everyday, transforming something mundane into an idea that can be experienced haptically. The second dimension becomes space-occupying. Playing with the unexpected and lightness invite you to try out the unusual with the ordinary.

We work with our best tools, our hands, and a brush.

You can bring any material you like. Anything is possible, from transparent paper to tissue paper to packing paper from shipping boxes. It should be absorbent.

Sculptor. Trained at the sculpture school in Munich. Lives and works in Marienheide in the Oberberg region. Conducts seminars and art projects with children, young people and adults in her own workshop and externally at educational institutions. Her favourite material is wood in all sizes.

The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to try something new and discover themselves, as well as experienced sculptors who are looking for an inspiring setting and want to deepen their skills and knowledge.

We start daily at 9.30 am. Coffee is available from 9am for a relaxed arrival. At 1 pm we have lunch together. The lunch break until 3 pm can be used for independent work or other activities. Workshop time ends at 5.30 pm on Saturday.

On Sunday we will have a shorter lunch break and finish around 4 pm.

The participation fee includes lunch and drinks. We calculate with 10 Euro per person and day, i.e. for a 2-day workshop it is 20 Euro.

The vegetarian lunch together contributes to the rich and inspiring atmosphere of our workshops. You can let us know in advance if you have any food intolerances. We will endeavour to take these into account.

The price includes the use of all tools provided. There are no material costs. You are welcome to bring your own materials and tools.

Students, pupils and trainees receive a 30% discount on the course fee (limited number of places, please specify in the message field when ordering).

The spacious studio is located in a light-flooded timber-framed building. The large windows face the garden, where you can work under awnings if you wish. The studio is located directly next to the new shop. You can browse there at your leisure and shopping is possible on weekends.

The building was erected in 1973 and has been honoured with architectural awards. It was declared a listed building in 1994. Just a few minutes away you will find the Max Ernst Museum and Falkenlust Palace, one of Brühl's UNESCO World Heritage castles. In the summer months, the Berggeistweiher pond in the Kottenforst forest invites you to take a refreshing break.

The address is: bildhau KG, Am Rankewerk 2, 50321 Brühl
There are plenty of parking spaces in front of the building. The location is barrier-free.
