It is important for all tools that they fit well in the hand, have a long service life and fulfil their purpose optimally. bildhau therefore attaches great importance to high-quality sculpting tools. 

Carving iron

Carving tools – also called carving chisels or sculptor's chisels – are tools for cutting wood, which means that depending on the width and cavity of the carving chisel, different sizes of wood can be removed. A distinction can be made between chisels, gouges and v-parting tools. Gouges are available in many special shapes.

Chip carving knife

Chip carving knives , sometimes also called carving knives, are available in a wide variety of shapes and at bildhau from the traditional brand PFEIL and the American quality manufacturer FLEXCUT.

Tools for woodcut and linocut

With a short handle and narrow, fine blades in various cross-sections, you will also find tools for woodcutting and linocutting at bildhau. wood carving tools and linoleum and block cutters are available from bildhau with a mushroom-shaped handle from PFEIL and a short, flat handle from FLEXCUT.

Hatchets, hatchets and sculptor's adzes

Slicer

With the classic planes you can work on straight surfaces and, depending on the type of plane, have different chip removal rates. You can work very finely with the plaster plane, giving the wood a silky lustre even when planing. Spokeshaves with differently shaped plane irons are particularly suitable for finishing and smoothing curved surfaces.

Rasp & files

bildhau has a wide range of rasps and files for wood and stone processing. A finer cut is usually selected for woodworking. At the same time, a sharper rasp is required for woodworking than for working on stone. When working with stone, rasps quickly become blunt. You should therefore think carefully about whether you want to "sacrifice" a sharp rasp to the stone for woodworking.

Saws

Japanese saws are ideal for all woodwork and are imported directly from their country of origin by bildhau. Kataba japanese saws such as Kataba, Dozuki, Ryoba and Kariwaku make sawing very easy and very precise. The special feature of the Japanese saw is that, unlike European saws, it cuts on the pull stroke and not on the push stroke. The saw teeth are sharpened accordingly, so the saw blade can be made much thinner. Japanese saws are very energy-saving to work with. Japanese saws are also available as folding saws for travelling. If you prefer to work with a larger bow saw , you will of course also find what you are looking for at bildhau.

Mallet

Mallets made from sculptor's mallet, hornbeam are a classic. Brass and bronze mallets are also very suitable for precise tool guidance for fine and filigree work, as they are very handy and small.

Clamping aids

The easiest way to work is when the tool does not slip and is firmly attached to the surface so that it does not bounce. To fix the wood in place, there are various clamping aids , which can be used in combination with the workbench or a sculptor's table for woodcarving can be used.

Sharpening hand tools

Working with carving tools that are sharpened precisely for the respective application is the greatest pleasure for wood sculptors. Depending on the intended use, the experienced carver will sharpen the cutting edges of their tools at different cutting angles. Various hand and machine sanding systems ensure that the sculptor's tools always remain in optimum condition when working on wood.
