Atelier Ulrich Rothmund in Münster

As an artist and stone sculptor, Ulrich Rothmund runs a workshop where he offers weekend courses in stone and wood. As a student of Ulrich Rückriem, a graduate of the Münster Art Academy and professional stone sculptor, he offers expert advice on figurative and abstract work. Basic courses are offered on the basic techniques of working with Baumberg sandstone, Carrara marble, soapstone and wood, as well as courses on specific themes such as torsos, forms from nature or abstract forms. The courses are suitable for beginners and advanced students. Each participant receives individual guidance from the course instructor on finding the right shape and on the crafting technique.

The local material is Baumberg sandstone, which has been used for centuries for figures and architecture. It is ideal for beginners as it is easy to work with and the finest details in the material are possible. Baumberg sandstone has a delicate grain and a beautiful material quality. Working with hammer and chisel, getting to grips with the material, allows us to immerse ourselves in the adventure of sculpting.

In warm weather we can work outside in the courtyard and otherwise in the sculptor's workshop, which is heated by a beautiful wood-burning stove in winter. In addition to the fixed course dates, individual courses for groups are also possible.
