Casting Compounds: Plaster, Cement, Ceramic Compounds

Classic casting compounds in sculpture include plaster and cement. Cast plaster sculptures can be further worked and shaped very well after casting. When casting stone or concrete with cement and aggregates, you also create sculptures for outdoor use.

The ceramic casting compounds Artelin and Artestone from ARTIDEE are particularly easy to work with and are also solvent-free, toxicologically and physiologically harmless. This means that they can also be used very well in educational or therapeutic contexts.

Support forms & substructure

To make support moulds for flexible casting moulds, for example, Gips can be used. Very stable support moulds, but much lighter than plaster moulds, especially for large moulds, can be built from epoxy casting resin with added fibre – they can even be screwed together.

Don't forget release agent!

Releasing agents are used during moulding to protect the original object or the base material – they prevent the „sticking“ of model and moulding compound or of casting mould (e.g. silicone mould) and casting compound or different mould parts among each other. This means that the mould is also protected from damage by the casting material. Depending on the material of the model and the impression material as well as the mould and the casting compound, you use different release agents.
