MORE INFO
Fast curing two-component polyurethane casting system. 1 kg resin PU 40 A + 1 kg hardener PU 40 B. Stable curing.
For the production of moulded parts, imitation wood, decorative parts and technical parts. For stage sets, decoration, artificial stones etc. As a base for plaster and filling, e.g. for flexible moulds. PU compound expands 15 to 18 times during foaming. The balanced reactivity of PU foam PU 40 A+B makes it ideal for use with simple moulds to obtain a polyurethane foam of very good quality.
Hard PU foam can also be used to produce blocks, for example, which can be carved and machined with tools (e.g. sanding, cutting, sawing) after curing.
APPLICATION
The PU system can be processed with a machine or by hand, the mixture must be poured within 35 seconds from the start of mixing.
When calculating the required amount of foam, please pay attention to the adhesion loss in the mixing vessel: for smaller quantities, it can account for up to 10 to 15 % of the total mass. Under no circumstances should you scrape out any residual PU compound adhering to the mixing vessel, as the components at the edge are often not sufficiently mixed and cannot react as desired.
The reactivity of all polyurethane systems depends heavily on the ambient temperature and the temperature of the starting materials. The reaction is slower at low temperatures and faster at high temperatures. The ideal processing temperature is around 20 °C. It is advisable to bring the starting materials to room temperature before processing.
Immediately before processing, mix PU 40 A (resin) and PU 40 B (hardener) in a volume ratio of 100:83 (ml) or in a weight ratio of 100:100 (g) by hand or with a machine in a mixing container to form a homogeneous, streak-free mass (e.g. with a high-speed rotary mixer at approx. 3,000 rpm). Avoid the formation of air bubbles as far as possible. Careful mixing is an absolute prerequisite for a high quality PU foam.
Pour into a dry, cool mould that has previously been treated with a (wax) release agent within a total of 20 - 30 seconds, max. 35 - 45 seconds depending on room temperature. Cure at room temperature.
Post-curing is generally recommended in order to stabilise the cured workpiece and achieve the best mechanical properties. Post-curing is necessary at temperatures above 70° C.
After processing, contaminated mixers, mixing vessels, tools etc. can be cleaned with a suitable solvent.

STORAGE
Polyurethane resins and hardeners can be stored in their original sealed containers in a cool, dry place for longer than one year. Both the resins and hardeners are very sensitive to moisture; this could lead to uneven expansion during curing. The isocyanates can crystallise at low temperatures. To restore the original properties, the product must be heated to 60 - 70° C, avoiding localised overheating. Allow to cool to room temperature before use.
From 24 August 2023, appropriate training must be provided before the product is used industrially or commercially.
